“Best Friend” Award Recognizes Friends of the Libraries of Towns County

The “Best Friend” Award recognizes an individual who has made a significant contribution to strengthen Georgia’s libraries through advocacy and supportive efforts. This year’s winner, nominated by (“FOLTC”), has been a strong advocate for the Towns County libraries for over twenty-five years. In 1996 Mrs. Tilly saw the need to organize a local Friends group and brought together twenty-five individuals in Towns County to participate as members of the initial Friends group. Mrs. Tilley was elected to serve as its first president and has since held every office that one could hold in this organization, along with working every year at book sales. She helped to establish the butterfly garden at the entrance of the Mountain Regional Library in Young Harris and, in 2005, Mrs. Tilly represented FOLTC at the first general membership meeting of FOGL. When Mountain Regional Library was being remodeled in 2016, Mrs. Tilley made a substantial donation that made possible the completion and furnishing of the Children’s Room. In 2021, the tireless efforts of this remarkable lady will be marked by the 25th Anniversary celebration of FCPLFA’s founding.
